Affordability

Pickering and Durham Regional municipal taxes are some of the highest in Ontario.  Families here are also financially strapped with high food and gas prices, to name just a few constraints. Families need attainable housing along with affordable options. Let’s not shut out this next generation. Developers need to tailer their home building to reflect the buyers current market.

Responsible development

Let’s put the horse before the cart and ensure the infrastructure can sustain our projected urban development. Seniors are looking to downsize their current homes in Pickering but want one floor bungalows to live comfortably within into their golden years. Small subdivisions of bungalows would go a long way to keep the golden generation and their investments here in our City.

Infrastructure and transportation

Phase out fuel only buses in our public transportation network and downsize and sell off those larger buses (not utilized to capacity) to other jurisdictions. Bring in a fleet of smaller sized buses for economical savings. Many current routes have empty larger buses day and night.
Track the ridership and adjust the fleet dimensions. Promote and purchase more hybrid diesel and electric buses. Infrastructure is paramount to a well run community. Green space is paramount to a healthier and more active community. Spend on places for community groups and residents to gather safely to enjoy the beauty of our City.

Small business support & development

Around the City, too many commercial spaces remain vacant and under utilized. Small business owners need incentives to step forward to compete with the big box stores and large chains. Small businesses are unique and contribute to the community vibe of this vibrant City. Let’s find a method to attract and keep small businesses thriving and show our community spirit! These businesses represent families and residents and are the proud owner.

Community management

The strength and character of our City and Region, is contingent upon the participation of all of its parts: residents; businesses; elected officials; organizations; faith based institutions; school boards and the list continues. Make council available and open to the people. Create frequent town halls for dialogue and social contacts. Return in person council meetings back to the people. No one wants to hide behind the keyboard. The City needs and wants and thrives with opportunities for social exchanges.
